TROMP 2018 Finale programme

In this festive gala matinée, the three finalists each perform a programme that includes the new mandatory finale work for solo percussion and chamber orchestra with Asko|Schönberg. The finalists complete their performances with one work for percussion solo of one's own choice with a max. duration of 10 minutes. As the jury leaves for their final assessment, the audience will vote for the winner of the Audience Award. The afternoon ends with the exciting announcement of the winners of the TROMP International Percussion Competition 2018.

New compulsory work by Daníel Bjarnason

Daníel Bjarnason composes the new mandatory final work for the TROMP competition in 2018, which will be performed by the three finalists. Bjarnason is a multi-talented composer, conductor and curator and works with indiebands (Sigur Rós, Efterklang) as well as orchestras like the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Daníel Bjarnason is composer-in-residence at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven.

Asko|Schönberg, leading ensemble for new music

Asko|Schönberg performs music of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in a variety of settings. The music they play includes work by well-established composers like Andriessen, Gubaidulina, Boulez, Kurtág, Ligeti and Stockhausen, as well as new works from the youngest generation. The ensemble has a large number of working alliances with theatre and opera companies as well as opera houses and regularly performs in a wide range of concert halls in the Netherlands and abroad, also as a regular guest in festivals in Cologne, Krakow and Paris among others.

In addition to its conductor Reinbert de Leeuw and permanent guest conductor Etienne Siebens, Asko|Schönberg also regularly works with Oliver Knussen, Clark Rundell, Bas Wiegers and Christian Karlsen.
